AFAICT, containing the far-right in the recent French election was possibly because of (1) a higher turnout (almost 60% vs <40% in 2022) and (2) mainstream news covering many terrible far-right candidates one by one and highlighting the party’s Russian ties. Good job everyone!
Well it looks like the French elections are much better than expected: the far-right won more seats but not as much as feared, Macron lost a bunch, and a left-wing union is somehow now ahead. Mediapart has good infographics for you.
Hey the Digital Services Tax is finally live: a 3% tax on Amazon, Google, Netflix, and so on, similar to what several European countries already do. The Canadian DST was on hold for years while people argued endlessly about it. Glad to finally see it went through.
