Ramblings of General Geekery

Heretic was good! I’m game for anything with Sophie Thatcher in it, but also I want to see more of Hugh Grant playing bad guys, he’s just great in this. Lots of fun theological rants (if you’re into that), and I’m very happy to see the story of the Landlord’s Game mentioned in a movie!

Weapons was fucking great! What could have been a by-the-book [REDACTED] story turns into a great series of “WTF is happening?!!!” by careful application of a few storytelling tropes that, in less skilled hands, might have felt like cheating the audience. Also: Aunt Gladys is great!

Heart Eyes was a lot of fun. An improbable slasher/romantic-comedy combo that goes heavy handed on both accounts. The story makes no sense but it’s the boyfriend/girlfriend we made along the way that counts, right?

The good fluffy boy is learning that he should in fact NOT try to catch ducks… despite everything that his DNA and breeding tells him. Notice the untouched ducks in the background. The good fluffy boy is being good.

Final Destination: Bloodlines was everything you’d want in a Final Destination movie. An over-the-top intro set piece. A new twist on the concept. Ridiculous deaths. A cool cameo. And the right level of self-awareness. Loved loved loved it!

I found Wake Up Dead Man entertaining but a big step down from the previous Knives Out movies. Rhythm issues, logic problems, and unbelievable plot points kinda turned me off for a bit. Still, it’s fun to see great actors deliver fun lines of dialogue.
